This has been one hell of a week for me! I have been busy applying for what feels like at least 100 jobs… I have been putting the final touches on my independent research study and literature review AND doing cryptography work for my IT Security class.

On top of all that, I have been trying to catch up on my reading for fun!

I’m currently reading A Taste of You-Sorcha Grace

sorcha

It’s ridiculously sexy… Like bite my nails and need to take a break, sexy…  Rumor has it that it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger-I need to mentally prepare myself.

The review for that should be coming within the next day or so…

I’m also reading True Love Story-Willow Aster

aster

This book is so realistic and vibrant. It really transports you back to those moments of first love and feeling like it was the end all to end all…

I cant wait to finish it and write the review…I have a feeling it is going to be a good one!

Keep a look out, lots coming in the next few days!

This book had me laughing out loud more than any book I have read in a long long time!

Jane Jameson, not to be confused with adult film star Jenna Jameson, is from the Hollow. A small, sleepy little town in the good ol’ south.

south

She is a librarian with a thirst for useless trivia…and a soon to be thirst for blood. After getting fired from her beloved job as a librarian and then being mistaken for a deer and shot on her way home, Jane awakes to find herself a new addition to the undead of Half Moon Hollow.

shocker

She has a hot and cold relationship with her sire Gabriel–SWOON

meow

And lots of run-ins with the local undead inhabitants… and SOMEBODY is trying to pin vampire murders on dear sweet Jane

what-in-the

This book wasn’t the best book I have ever read but if you are looking for a book to give you a nice little giggle fit, this is a good fit for you!

Some of my FAV quotes:

“I am your sire. I am to guide you through your first days as a vampire. Your first feeding is a rite of passage, a sacrament. It will not be wasted on some hormone-driven frenzy. This is why I wanted you to feed from me.”
“I will not drink it in a house, I will not drink it with a mouse. I will not drink it
here or there, I will not drink it anywhere,” I wheezed, hoping I was able to communicate adequate sarcasm through the crippling belly cramps.
“Did you just quote Green Eggs and Ham?”

-Jane and Gabriel

funny

“A woman puts on a new dress eyeliner lip gloss to please others. A woman paints her toes to please herself. And if there was one thing I was familiar with it was pleasing…There’s no way to finish that sentence without embarrassing myself.”

-Jane

“Note to self: Try to stop reacting to surprises like a cartoon character.”

“Walmart started selling “Vampire Home Defense Kits”, including holy water, crosses, stakes, mallets, and a book of quick blessings to bar vampires from your door. The fact that these kits were generally useless didn’t bother me nearly as much as the idea of holy water being sold at Walmart.”

-Jane

oh-brother

“Wait, Richard Cheney, as in Dick Cheney? You’re a vampire named Dick Cheney? Somehow, that makes you seem more evil.”

-Jane

hehe

Jane Jameson.”
He grinned. “Like the porn star.”
I gaped at him. “What? No, Jane Jameson.”
“Oh, not as fun,” he said, making disappointed clucking noises.”

-Dick Cheney (the vampire)

Overall, I give this 3/5 stars. An enjoyable read but nothing too spectacular

I finally gave in one day and YOWZA! I don’t know what I was expecting but I certainly was not expecting to fly through this series in a matter of 3 days!

mind-blown

I am going to preface this review by saying that I am not reviewing this book in terms of grammar or spelling or syntax or what not… There are too many things wrong in those areas to even begin to talk about them all, but more importantly, I don’t think they detract from the story too much.

So a basic overview…

Anastasia Steele, or Ana for short, fills in for her friend and roommate at an interview of millionaire entrepreneur, Christian Grey.

What neither one was expecting was to be swept off of their feet by one another… (literally… Ana bites it HARD when she see’s Christian)

failed

I have my ideas of who I think is a perfect Christian and a perfect Ana but I don’t want to get bogged down in the debate over who should play whom in the upcoming movie so I will just let you all use your imaginations.

Im fairly certain you wont have a hard time coming up with something…..

sex

Christian is the epitome of the alpha male and Ana, while standing her ground for the most part, is what I would call a reluctant submissive.

I was expecting a lot more shock value with this book. When everyone was telling me about all of the BDSM that was in the book, I was prepared to spend most of my time looking like this:

shocked

However, I didn’t think there was anything that RISQUE in the series… Maybe that says more about me than it does about the book, but moving on…

cheers

There are some points in the story where it feels like storylines are just thrown in the mix to give the book some essence of mystery and climactic power but I think they were kind of dumb to be honest.

does-not-get-it

In the final book of the series, right before the epilogue, the last page of the last chapter ends on a scene that I honestly thought was one of the perfect endings of any erotic romance I have ever read. But of course, the book goes on in the epilogue and I was grateful to have more Ana and Christian but I would have preferred to have it end on that moment of submission (I don’t want to give too much away…but if you read the series, be on the looking for the last chapter in Fifty Shades Freed)

I will leave you with some of my favorite quotes from the series… ENJOY!

“We aim to please Miss Steele” Christian, 50 Shades of Grey

“Laters, baby”-Christian, 50 Shades of Grey

“Does this mean you’re going to make love to me tonight, Christian?” Holy shit. Did I just say that? His mouth drops open slightly, but he recovers quickly.
“No, Anastasia it doesn’t. Firstly, I don’t make love. I fuck… hard. Secondly, there’s a lot more paperwork to do, and thirdly, you don’t yet know what you’re in for. You could still run for the hills. Come, I want to show you my playroom.”
My mouth drops open. Fuck hard! Holy shit, that sounds so… hot. But why are we looking at a playroom? I am mystified.
“You want to play on your Xbox?” I ask. He laughs, loudly.
“No, Anastasia, no Xbox, no Playstation. Come.”… Producing a key from his pocket, he unlocks yet another door and takes a deep breath.
“You can leave anytime. The helicopter is on stand-by to take you whenever you want to go, you can stay the night and go home in the morning. It’s fine whatever you decide.”
“Just open the damn door, Christian.”
He opens the door and stands back to let me in. I gaze at him once more. I so want to know what’s in here. Taking a deep breath I walk in.
And it feels like I’ve time-traveled back to the sixteenth century and the Spanish Inquisition.
Holy fuck.” -Christian and Ana, 50 Shades of Grey

ohyes

You wanted hearts and flowers,” he murmurs.
I blink at him, not quite believing what I’m seeing.
“You have my heart.” And he waves toward the room.
“And here are the flowers,” I whisper, completing his sentence. “Christian, it’s lovely.” -Christian, 50 Shades Darker

swooning

“I’m talking about the heavy shit, Anastasia. You should see what I can do with a cane or a cat.” -Christian, 50 Shades Darker

spanking

“And now my past and my future are colliding in a way I never thought possible.”

jenna

Check it out…I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!

This book started off with so much promise. The book description had me HOOKED from the jump…

Emma lives a very self-destructive life, barely making her way through college. Her world is turned upside down after meeting Mr. Honor, her new history teacher whose idea of discipline may be a little too much for Emma to handle. While trying to figure out their new relationship, they also have to deal with the very real possibility that someone has discovered their secret and is trying to hurt them. But Mr. Honor is keeping a few secrets of his own from Emma.

happydance

Ok, first and foremost, I HATE that the teachers name is Mr. Honor. I think the author could have been a BIT more creative with that…

eh

I liked the idea of an alpha male character and a school setting (this is the premise of a book im writing on my own actually) BUT, Mummert does a complete SHIT job at capturing the essence of ‘college’. I’m fairly certain that this book was originally written with Emma being in high school and having an affair with her high school teacher. I’m not really sure why the publisher or the author decided to change that, perhaps they were worried about portraying a statutory rape situation, but for whatever the reasons, there is NO EXCUSE for just going through the book and changing the words ‘high school’ to ‘college’… Which it seems like this is exactly what they did…

wtf

There are so many G L A R I N G L Y obvious situations where I wanted to reach through my Kindle and punch characters in the face because under the premise of this being a college relationship, the shit just made ZERO sense. Like none. NADA.oh-heeeell-to-the-no

Let me best illustrate the nonsense that was this book by providing you with some epicly STUPID things that are written…

  • BELLS… As in, bells ringing at the start and end of class…

Umm, who in the hell goes to COLLEGE and has bells alert them to the start or end of class periods… People in high school, that’s who!

nunt-uh

  • PERIODS…As in, different class periods…

You don’t call them periods in college, number one… and number two, you CERTAINLY don’t have a ‘lunch period’

eww

  • CLASS NAMES…As in, English class, History class and so on…

In college, your classes arent identified by the subject they fall under. The names are specific to the content taught in that class. For instance, History class would be something like Early American History in college. This particular part of the story irritated me the most…I dont know why, it just did…

duh

  • GETTING CAUGHT IN THE BATHROOM, SMOKING… As in, Mr Honor seeks out Emma in the bathroom where she is smoking with 2 other girls from her class

Number one, nobody gives a shit if you’re in class while you are in college. If they take attendance, all they do is mark you absent and the class moves on. No professor is wasting their time to come and find you in the bathroom and then turn around and reprimand you for smoking.

bender

  • SIGNING IN…As in, Emma needing to be SIGNED IN by her Aunt for being late to school one day

Are you fucking kidding me?! I can’t even… I literally have no words for how fucking STUPID this is…

eyeroll

I absolutely DO NOT recommend this book… It really is a shame because like I said, it had SO MUCH promise. The fantasy of a professor/student scenario is a must have for a lot of people, myself included, and this book completely missed the mark…

not-my-jam

Not going to lie, this was one of the best series I have ever read. It requires a really good and long commitment, considering the length of each book, but I promise, you will not be let down.

I have heard from multiple people, that the Audiobook version of this is quite remarkable but you are looking at over 35 some odd hours for each book. I personally feel that you could read the book version a hell of a lot faster but I will leave that up to you all!

Now on to the story!

Starts off with Claire Randall in the year 1945. She is a nurse on a second honeymoon in Scotland with her husband. A stroll to an ancient stone circle suddenly catapults Claire back in time to the year of our Lord, 1743.

Claire is an “outlander” in this new world… Under the protection of Highlander, James Fraser, Claire will have to battle her own convictions of what is right and wrong and what it means to really love someone…

Claire goes against your typical idea of what a woman would be like around this time…no damsel in distress act for her!  She is a very strong and well-developed character who can hold her own against the foreign surroundings.

James, or more affectionately–Jamie–is ruggedly handsome and strong but has his own weaknesses and faults. He is the romantic male lead that all other writers aspire to have their characters resemble.

There is obviously time travel (don’t be deterred by this), romance, lots of sex (also, don’t let this be a deterrent), violence, witchcraft, highlanders in action and much much more…

This entire series will take you on a journey throughout time and have you going through all of the emotions of Jamie and Claire. I will leave you will some of my favorite lines from the book. Perhaps they will speak to the reasons why this book series is NOT to be missed!

“I stood still, vision blurring, and in that moment, I heard my heart break.  It was a small, clean sound, like the snapping of a flower’s stem.” -Dragonfly in Amber

heartbreak

“I will find you,” he whispered in my ear.  “I promise.  If I must endure two hundred years of purgatory, two hundred years without you – then that is my punishment, which I have earned for my crimes.  For I have lied, and killed, and stolen; betrayed and broken trust.  But there is the one thing that shall lie in the balance.  When I shall stand before God, I shall have one thing to say, to weigh against the rest.”

His voice dropped, nearly to a whisper, and his arms tightened around me.

Lord, ye gave me a rare woman, and God!  I loved her well.”-Dragonfly in Amber

this

“You are safe,” he said firmly.  “You have my name and my family, my clan, and if necessary, the protection of my body as well.  The man willna lay hands on ye again, while I live.” -Outlander

lolly

I could go on and on and on and on…. You get the picture!

Dont worry about the language..sometimes it can be hard to read but it passes. I loved this series so much I am actually about to start round two on the whole thing. If you are interested in reading the series we could do it as a buddy read…what do you think?!  Leave your feedback in the comments!

Jocelyn Butler is a woman who has lost everything in her life…

Braden Carmichael is a man who wants what he seemingly cannot have…

Together, the two will break down walls, learn from one another and ultimately find a love neither one was prepared for…

Let me just tell you, I have a serious addiction to books set in Ireland and Scotland. I am envisioning a nice Gerard Butler-esque portrayl for Mr. Braden Carmichael…

YUMMMMMMY

butler

I imagined a version of Jennifer Lawrence for Jocelyn. Snarky, Gorgeous and a GREAT RACK!

lawrence

This book starts off hot and steamy, literally… Braden walks in on Jocelyn fresh out of the shower. YOWZA

YOWZA

There are some lines in the book that legit almost made me drop my kindle in excitement, such as:

“Babe, nice lingerie is for seducing a man. I’m already fucking seduced.” -Braden Carmichael

WannaBeAlone

“We fuck, we have fun, and then we spoon. I don’t go home…” -Braden Carmichael

itsMyTHING

And then there were the ones that just made me cry…

“Sometimes the clouds weren’t weightless. Sometimes their bellies got dark and full. It was life. It happened. It didn’t mean it wasn’t scary, or that I wasn’t still afraid, but now I knew that as long as I was standing under it with Braden beside me when those clouds broke, I’d be alright.” -Jocelyn Butler

hands

“I feel like I’m missing something really important when you’re gone. So important I don’t feel like myself. I’ve never felt like someone was mine before. But you’re mine, Jocelyn. I’ve known that from the moment we met. And I’m yours. I don’t want to be anyone else’s, babe.” -Braden Carmichael

cry

There is a really sweet friendship between Braden’s sister and Jocelyn and that too made me cry…

crying

All in all, I would have to say that I most definitely recommend this book. It reminds us what it means to lose the ones we love and our hope and faith in life…only to find it all over again in the least expected of places.

Check it out and leave your comments and feedback!

I would normally break this review down into a book by book review however, since the final Sookie Stackhouse novel is coming out THIS May, I figure now is as good a time as any to give an overview and review of the entire series as a whole.

First off, I should mention that I didnt start reading this series until AFTER I saw the first season of True Blood. I know, I know…bad girl, Nikki, bad girl.

Go ahead and say I jumped on the bandwagon…I did…and I have ZERO regrets.

This series grabbed my attention from book one. I mean honestly, who couldnt resist a sexy viking vampire in a good ol’ southern town of Bon Temps Louisiana? Certainly not I…

Eric FUCKING Northman

The series takes us through many trials and tribulations of the very funny, very sexy, Sookie Stackhouse. From her inital relationship with Vampire Bill to her sexy and endearing relationship with Eric Northman…and all of the hookup’s and lovers in between…

As the series goes on, I have to say that it tends to get a little bit harder to read. Mostly because I think most people want Sookie to just settle down and be happy with *SPOILER* but yet she is in a constant state of distress and doesnt get to spend much time being happy and in love.

I am axiously awaiting the final book in the series to see who she finally ends up with and if she will finally get her Happily Ever After…

I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a nice romance, mixed with some mystery and intrigue and of course, drop DEAD sexy vamps, weres and even some faerie
